Hit the Brakes! Not Us: SYNERGY NORTH Promotes Safety Around Roadside Workers
Thunder Bay, ON—As the spring season unfolds SYNERGY NORTH is renewing its commitment to safety and aims to promote driver caution in work zones. SYNERGY NORTH is reinforcing its Hit the Brakes! Not Us message, along with its dedication to safety by reminding drivers to slow down and pay attention when traveling through work zones. With roadways shared by both workers and motorists, the utility underscores the shared responsibility of ensuring everyone’s safety on the road.
“Everybody deserves a safe workspace. The roadside is often the workplace for many Synergy North employees. By sharing the ‘Hit the Brakes, Not Us’ campaign, Synergy North hopes to mitigate the risks associated with working near traffic, ultimately saving lives and preventing accidents on the road,” says Amy Kembel, Interim Vice President Human Resources, Safety & Corporate Risk at SYNERGY NORTH. “As a driver you are an active participant in the safety of Synergy North crew members who are working just feet away from you. Working near traffic remains the number one uncontrollable hazard for our crew. These are critical steps that can help to make sure every roadside worker goes home at the end of every workday.”
SYNERGY NORTH’s fleet proudly displays large stickers bearing the Hit the Brakes! Not Us message, spreading awareness and encouraging safer driving practices throughout the communities they serve. To coincide with the campaign, SYNERGY NORTH has released a new video illustrating the importance of driver awareness and caution around roadside workers. The video, set in a typical office space but created outdoors in the middle of a street, demonstrates the safety hazards caused by fast-moving vehicles, emphasizing the need for drivers to slow down and stay vigilant when workers are present.
“Imagine someone driving fast through your workspace? That is what we wanted to communicate through this video. When you see a roadside crew, slow down, drive with care and stay alert. Think about every one of those orange cones and roadside signs with a person standing right beside it,” continues Kembel.
The SYNERGY NORTH Hit the Brakes Pit Crew will be on location at a few public events over the next couple of weeks to engage with the community and share this powerful message. To learn more, stay tuned to the SYNERGY NORTH Facebook page or visit synergynorth.ca/safety/hit-the-brakes
