SYNERGY NORTH Easements
Utility easements help ensure safe and reliable electricity service for homes and businesses. Some properties may contain a SYNERGY NORTH easement which is a legal right of access to a portion of properties for the purpose of installing and maintaining our distribution system. SYNERGY NORTH will contact property owners directly only when access to an easement is required to perform work.
A registered easement is a small portion of your property that allows SYNERGY NORTH to access it when needed to safely deliver electricity. This helps us install, inspect, maintain, repair, and upgrade electrical equipment to keep power reliable for you and your community.
SYNERGY NORTH may need access to easements to complete maintenance, upgrades, or repairs to ensure safe and reliable electricity service.
Items placed on easements should not be permanent without written consent from SYNERGY NORTH. Anything placed in this area must be able to be easily removed if access is required.
Examples include:
- Sheds or small structures
- Fences or gates
- Vegetation
- Landscaping features
To protect safety and underground or overhead infrastructure, you must also not dig, drill, pave, grade, excavate, or otherwise alter the easement area without prior written consent from SYNERGY NORTH.
There is often a long period of time between when a property is purchased and when access to an easement is required. You may be contacted only when access is needed for a specific project or work that needs to be done.
SYNERGY NORTH will only request that an obstruction be moved if access to the easement is required.
SYNERGY NORTH will contact you directly (via phone and/or letter-mail) and provide as much notice as possible before access is required.
If an obstruction is not moved by the required date:
- SYNERGY NORTH will move the obstruction to gain access
- Any costs associated with moving the obstruction will be charged to the property owner
- SYNERGY NORTH cannot guarantee the obstruction will not be damaged
Before building or landscaping:
- Review easements on your property
- Contact Call Before You Dig to identify any underground infrastructure on your property
- Ensure anything placed on an easement can be removed if needed
If you have questions about a SYNERGY NORTH easement or have received a notice, please contact SYNERGY NORTH.
