SYNERGY NORTH Flips the Switch on Learning with New Be Power Safe Program
In an effort to educate and keep kids safe, SYNERGY NORTH launched its Be Power Safe educational program at local elementary schools this week. The new informative and dynamic electrical safety program sets out to make children aware of electricity and its potential hazards.
Through engaging in-person classroom sessions, students in grades three and four will join the SYNERGY NORTH team on a journey to understand the fundamentals of how to stay safe when it comes to electricity. Each Be Power Safe presentation includes an introduction to electricity alongside discussions on how to recognize potential dangers through various electrical hazard scenarios. It also features tips to keep safe, along with a special visit from one of SYNERGY NORTH’s Power line Technicians who will demonstrate Personal Protective Equipment in a fun and engaging way.
“Synergy North is on a mission to spark awareness about electrical safety among young minds. Safety is a shared responsibility and together with our local schools, we can make an impact,” says Susan Frattaroli, SYNERGY NORTH Safety Advisor. “Students thoroughly enjoy seeing the SYNERGY NORTH team in their gear and learning from those who work with electricity daily. Our hope is that they not only absorb this information, but also take it home and share it with their family and friends. Knowledge is power.”
Today the SYNERGY NORTH team was at Woodcrest Public School sharing the Be Power Safe message. “No matter where our students are, we want them to be safe and make smart choices. Thank you to everyone at Synergy North for joining our Woodcrest community today to help keep our students well informed and out of harm’s way,” says Nikki Marks, Principal of Woodcrest Public School.
According to the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA), Ontario emergency departments handle an average of 177 cases of children with an electrical injuries annually, with elementary school-aged children accounting for 31 per cent of those visits.
“Teaching kids about electrical safety is crucial because it helps prevent accidents, injuries and even fatalities. Understanding the risks associated with electricity empowers children to make smart choices and steer clear of dangerous situations,” continues Frattaroli. “Synergy North’s Be Power Safe presentations aim to lay the foundation for a lifetime of safe practices around electricity.”
Every student participating in the Be Power Safe program receives a Be Power Safe booklet that highlights all of the key information in a child-friendly way and they can also take the SYNERGY NORTH Be Power Safe Pledge. The Be Power Safe Program will visit several schools in the city until the end of May.
